Elliott Smith - Say Yes Tab

For the solo, bridge 1 and 2 I put a link to YouTube where you can see how I play them

myself, might the tab not be clear enough.

Verse 1:

Note that the last chord A7 has a few extra strums. The tabbed notes are exactly what Elliott plays, but you can play it in your own way, doesn't really matter as long as you keep the right rhythm. You could use the same strums for every chord (the same

For every verse actually), but I'm to lazy to tab that out.

G Gmaj7 Em I'm in love with the world             D C      Through the eyes of a girl              Em7    A7 Who's still around the morning after

Verse 2:

Here I altered a few things. The 1st guitar plays the same as verse 1. The 2nd guitar

comes in and plays a few high notes on the e-string. So with only one guitar you could play it like this. G Gmaj7 Em D C Em7 A7 A7
e 3 7 7 10 8 7 5 5 5 5
B 3 8 8 10 8 8 5 5 5 5 5

D 5 9 9 12 10 9 5 5
A 5 9 9 7 7 12 10 x 7 7
E 3 3 x x 10 10 8 8 7 7 5 5 5 5
G Gmaj7 Em    We broke up a month ago        D    C I grew up I didn't know         Em7  A7 I'd be around the morning after

Intermezzo/solo:

1st Guitar plays the chords as in verse 1, 2nd guitar plays the solo. I tried to combine

both guitars in something playable for one guitar. This means that some notes are an octave lower than the 2nd guitar plays them. You'll have to figure out the rhythm yourself here. To make it more clear I put an asterix (*) next to the notes that should coincide with the bass strokes of the 1st

Guitar. When you put the right accent on the notes of the solo and keep the rhythm

correct at the same time then it sounds great. Practise required!

Verse 3:

The same as verse 2 with only one difference at the end on the A7 chords. There you can

Play something similar as the end of the solo:

B 5 8h10 10 10p8
G 6 9 9 9
D 5 7 7 7
A 7 7*
E 5 5 5 x

Verse 4:

The same as verse 3.

Bridge 1:

C D Em Situtations get fucked up             G        A7 C But turned around sooner or laaaaa... ter... Here I will combine the simple chords of the 1st guitar again with the 2nd guitar high notes. The chords above the tab are there to indicate the rhythm, since the rhythm of the chords is easy to hear in the song (Em is not played in my version, although 1st guitar does play it). So you'll know where and how fast the notes must be played. C D Em G A7

Verse 5:

The same as verses 3&4.

Bridge 2:

G Gaug5 Em Crooked spin can't come to rest F9/5flat Em I'm damaged bad at best G C She'll decide what she wants G Gaug5 Em  I'll probably be the last to know F9/5flat Em No one says until it shows G Am And you see how it iiiiiiiis... G F Em Cm They want you or they don't...     G Say yes...

The word 'yes' dissolves into verse 6 which of course starts with the G chord again.

In this part there is mainly one guitar so this is not too difficult. Over the C chord and the Am chord there are some notes from the 2nd guitar which I combined again. The same for the last G and F chords. G Gaug5 Em F9/5flat Em G

fret.
