Standard (EADGBE)

I thought at first there had been a mistake,

When a car had dropped me off the cake,

And told me there was cause for celebration

I said mate you’ve got the wrong address

I’m living with a world of stress

So remove the cake and all its connotations

He looked me squarely in the eyes

And have you ever wandered why?

The constitution has sunk below the belt

A cake my friend will make amends

For your disappointment or loss of friends

But the one I bring has been made with so much guile

I said I

Me oh my

A sense of humour is usually required

I said I

Oh me oh my

A sense of you is usually required

With that I thought I couldn’t hear no more

So I took the cake and I shoved it all

In the place in the centre of my table

Before too long the sunken heart

Came up from our centre spot

Unto my head this thing I found able

To consider who would be so kind

To think of me in these worthwhile times

And how could I feign a true cause?

I’ll take a slice and bag the rest

And send it to someone at best

Whose luck was worse than mine, but about to change

Violin solo

I said to occupy the thoughts of one

And to hold you merely as a son

Cannot be taken lightly or undone

A simply gesture such as this

Can raise you up and clear the mist

Should never be forgotten or dismissed
